Ted Burgin

Burgin was a solid presence in the Sheffield United goal during his time at the club between 1949 and 1957. He was nicknamed as ‘the cat’ by many professionals. White playing with the Blades he was thought as being one of the finest goal keepers in England. In total he made 314 appearances for the Blades and he set a club record of making 102 consecutive appearances between November 1949 and March 1952. He was a feature in the England squad for the 1954 world cup finals.

Euphraim (Jock) Dodds

At the age of 18 years old, Dodds signed for Sheffield United and soon became a phenomenon in front of goal for the club. He was the blades leading goal scorer for five consecutive seasons between 1935 and 1940. During his incredible time at United, he scored a staggering 130 goals in only 203 appearances for the club. At the beginning of the 1940’s he moved on to play for Blackpool and his goal scoring record at that club was second to none, 200 goals during his time at the club including 66 goals scored during the 1941-42 season.

 

Jimmy Hagan

Hagan’s career at Sheffield United spanned for over 20 years, between 1938 and 1958. He made his debut for the club in a match against Swansea City in November 1938 and soon found his touch in front of goal. He was installed as the club captain in 1946 and spent three years playing as captain for the club. To this day he is one of Sheffield United’s leading goal scorers of all time, netting in over 150 goals in just under 450 matches played for the club.
