Alan Woodward

Woodward occupied the position of the outside right for the Blade for a staggering 16 years between 1962 and 1978. Woodward was arguably one of the finest dead ball specialists during his time in the game. He made his debut for the club during the 1963-64 season and scored the winner in the 1964 County Cup final. During his 16 year spell playing for the club, Woodward became the Blades leading ever post war goal scorer and made a total of 536 league appearances.

Alejandro Sabella

After playing his football with Argentinean football club, River Plate between 1974 and 1978, Sabella moved to England to play for Sheffield United, signing for the club for £160,000 and made his debut for the Blades in August 1978 in a match against Leyton Orient. He made a huge impact in the two seasons he spent with Sheffield United, making 76 appearances for the club. His ball control was arguably one of the best in the English football league and he helped United win the County Cup in May 1980, scoring in the final against Sheffield Wednesday. He later on moved to Leeds United in 1980 for £400,000 before moving back to Argentina.

Bob Hatton

Hatton was an outstanding centre forward who started his career off playing for Wolves before having spells playing for Bolton and Northampton. He soon moved on to play for Carlisle United and the club soon moved higher up the table due to his great play. He helped Carlisle reach the semi finals of the league cup in 1969. The 1970-71 campaign was a great one as he was deadly in front of goal for Carlisle, scoring an incredible 24 goals in 46 appearances. He soon moved on to play for Birmingham City and in the summer of 1978, Hatton moved on to play for Sheffield United, in attempting to help the blades gain promotion.
