Brian Deane

Brian Deane really established himself in the game after moving from Doncaster Rovers in 1988 for £40000 going to Sheffield United. He came into a Sheffield United side that was in the third division and his goals over the next two seasons earned the club back to back promotions in to the top flight. During his very successful five year spell at Sheffield, he scored a prolific 83 goals in under 200 appearances. He is most notable for scoring the first ever premiership goal, against Manchester United after 5 minutes on the opening day of 1992-93 season. His outstanding performances with the Blades earned him a call up to the England side and a move to Leeds United in 1993. After a successful period at Leeds he moved on to play for Benfica in Portugal before spending the 1997-98 campaign with Sheffield United in a second spell at the club. He later on had spells playing for Middlesbrough, Sunderland before finishing his career off with Sheffield United during the 2005-06, in his third spell with the club.

Simon Tracey

Tracey started his career off in goal, playing for Wimbledon in 1985, spending three years at the London outfit prior a move to Sheffield as he was signed by Sheffield United. He served under Dave Bassett in goal at Wimbledon and followed him to Bramall Lane. His finest season in goal was the 1989-90 season as he played in all 46 league matches in the Blades promotion winning season.

Dave Whitehouse

Whitehouse made his Sheffield United debut in the year 1988 as a trainee, making his league debut at the young age of 18 years. He became a permanent fixture in the side during the 1989-90 season and helped the club earn promotion by the end of the campaign to the top flight. He was arguably one of the finest wingers in the second division during that season.

David Barnes

David Barnes commenced his football career as an apprentice at Coventry City in the year 1979, making 13 appearances before he was released to join Ipswich Town football club in April 1982. In October 1984 he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers for £35,000. Dave Bassett purchased the player for £50,000 for him in July 1989 and he helped the club win promotion to the top flight during the 89-90 season. Barnes was a former England youth international who played 14 times at youth level. He was a key defender for the Blades during the early 1990’s.
